2000 Rover - Austin 25 GTi from UK and Ireland - Comments

"High performance Bargain"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Head Gasket went at 76,000 miles.

Rattling dash.

Strange unsolvable idling problem.

Electric mirrors replaced.

Rear windscreen exploded.

Air conditioning fans replaced.

Many bulbs.

General comments?

The car is very quick.

The car is very rare.

Looks good.

But the tyres are expensive at £102 each.

Insurance is a nightmare for a 21 year old.

But well worth it.

Funny, my head gasket also went at 76,000 miles on the GTi. Very expensive to repair (if your lucky) else new engine needed!

Other than that no problems at all, great car, Very Quick!

Insurance is rather expensive at group 14.

Fuel economy on mine averaged at 23mpg.

I have recently purchased a 2001 25 gti and what a lovely car.i have small family and we fit in nicely. but to my dismay the head gasket has blown and I am looking at a big repair bill, but hey its worth its very rare and under stated car.

Hi all.

Can sympathise with you all on the head gasket thing. But consider yourselves lucky. I have a had a 2000 25 GTi 64000mls for the past three years. Its great to drive and it's a wolf in sheep's clothing.

However, the head gasket thing is not the only major problem I have faced - get a price for a new exhaust manifold - that will definitely cheese you off!

Because the car is so rare itself, and now with whats happened to Rover, the exhaust manifolds for this car are like getting rocking horse poo.

I paid the best part of £600.00 for a new manifold and back box! considering 6 months previously my head gasket cost me £800.00! - and I'm still getting leaks from my rocker cover. These aren't cowboy mechanics doing the work either!

So beware, of the above and also the following:-

Constant bulb replacements

idling/ticking over/loss of power problems

getting through brake pads and discs like nobody's business

Air conditioning leaks

Shaking steering wheel and dashboard

Tyres aren't cheap.

From the above, It looks although I have been thrashing my car, but trust me I'm no boy racer at 30 y/o and have drove my car like a milk float!

I still love my almost new car (well it is now anyway), even though of the above. Its great to drive and very quick!
