The rear brakes were stuck on at last service.
ABS light stays on all the time.
Clutch is a bit sloppy.
The car is very comfortable.
The car goes extremely well for a 1600.
The engine seems strong and reliable.
I'm a mechanic so I'm aware of the common faults with rovers, but maintenance and good servicing will keep it a nice, comfortable car.
The car is not costly to run or repair.
"The Engine seems to be strong and reliable"
It just seems... because actually it isn't.
The engine on my 1997 Rover 416i had to be replaced at 37.000 Miles due a snapped Cam Belt.
I Will never buy a Rover again!
I own a P reg Rover 416si.It has 107000 on the clock and drives like a dream. For some reason, people give the Rover an "old mans" image. I can confirm that this is definitely not the case. Mine goes like a rocked. It is a fantastic BRITISH car. I would only part with it to get a newer Rover model.
My '97 416Si is still going strong after 150'000 miles. Rather an underrated car I think, only criticism I have is that the engine is a little noisy and it has a tiny glove compartment. My son now has the car (I covered over 100.000 miles in it as my company car). Very little has gone wrong with it - just needed normal wear and tear stuff at normal intervals. I now have a 2003 1.8 Rover 45 and it really goes.
