1995 Rover - Austin 400 414 Si from UK and Ireland - Comments

"Bargain? Yeah rite!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The head gasket EXPLODED and the car never ran again!

These cars a pure JUNK and I wouldn't advise anyone to buy one even if held to gun point!

I bought my Laguna Seca Green (very rare sports color apparently) Si DOHC 1400cc GT-R or €900 and I felt like I got a bargain when now its plain to see I got robbed in broad daylight!

I bought the car from a mate who is a dealer called "Bom Bom" and he promised me that Stevo test drove it and it was sweet azz! But it was far from sweet Azz because the car began to stink with a funny odor and the self destruct button must have been pressed on a daily basis!

They are real Bad cars... REAL BAD!

General comments?

I hate this car!

When the head gasket detonated under the hood about 6 months ago I was upset, not because nobody could or would bother fixing it, but the fact that the car was pure rubbish and it was sitting outside my door not running for month on end!

My mate Lope G went mad one nite and started twitching and said "RITE" the rover must die!

So we towed it away and burned it to liquid and now its gone out of my life for good!

I really am happy and I was considering setting up a company that goes around collecting these thrash can cars and reducing them all to liquid! the world would be a far better place!

I don't know well why I bother commenting on such a bad review, but anyway, Rover deserves it:

Lets take it by parts -

"What things have gone wrong with the car?

- I never heard of a head gasket exploding... Sometimes they quit doing their job and let water go to oil, compression to water, etc, but EXPLODING??? Yeah... Right...

"These cars a pure JUNK and I wouldn't advise anyone to buy one even if held to gun point!"

I can introduce you to hundreds of people who are very happy with their Rovers. By the way: Did you did proper maintenance to it? Did you let the engine go to good temperature before trashing it? Yeah... Maybe not...

- I don't know well what to say about what you said, but let me tell you one little secret: If you bought from a dealer, you could get back to him, and at least ask for someone who could put a new head gasket... It is no big thing, and a good mechanic could do a good job to you.

HGF Is no reason to destroy any car.

"They are real Bad cars... REAL BAD!"

They're not bad. People sometimes treat them bad and expect them not to fail, and sometimes they do fail, as any Mercedes or BMW can do also.

- You have the right to be upset, and more because, if you do a proper research, you will find lots of people who would be able to change the head gasket properly, and maybe some prices can surprise you.

"I really am happy and I was considering setting up a company that goes around collecting these thrash can cars and reducing them all to liquid! the world would be a far better place!"

- Yeah, That's a good idea.

I suggest you announce your services in good places, like: forums.mg-rover.org or mg-rover.carpremium.net. Sure they will ask for your services. There are a lot of unhappy Rover customers there.

To finish, let me tell you that I am a Rover owner, and yes, my head gasket did fail, and there was a lot of people able to change it. I did half of the job, disassembling the engine, because I had the time and wanted it to be well done and less expensive. Now it is OK, running very well, and I can say I have an excellent car, bought for peanuts...

For a 14 year old car, it is excellent.
