2000 Rover - Austin 45 review from UK and Ireland
"Stylish, cool, but unreliable (if one with air con is chosen!)"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
A/C no longer works.
Back door does not open from the inside.
Front passenger seat is not easily adjustable.
Oil pressure switch leaked.
Aerial snapped in the car wash.
Brakes stick on occasionally.
The speedometer did not record the correct speed of the car.
General comments?
What can I say about this car?
Basically it's a Honda Civic that looks better than the standard car. From the front it looks aggressive, but the rear does look ugly & benign. The cabin is pleasant if a little old fashioned, & all the controls are where you'd expect them to be.
The problem is that while the 45 took the shape with it, it didn't take the quality of the japanese car. Things that really shouldn't go wrong did, the brakes (common to most Rovers) stuck on. The rear passenger door first wouldn't close properly & now does not open from the inside. Various other minor niggles have happened since then.
Basically it's a good car, but the package itself fails on quality & could do with the legendary Honda Reliablility.
I chose this car because Rover is one of the last british car manufacturers. It was and still is great. It really is a shame that it went out of business. I do hope that Rovers will eventually be produced to better quality under its new chinese owners.
