2000 Rover - Austin 75 classic, SE review from UK and Ireland
"TOUGH! reliable, sure footed and easy to drive!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Firstly let me say that this is an ex company car, full dealer history.
Being a company car I don't expect it to have been treated the nicest, so was ready for a few faults.
On buying (repaired at dealers costs) was:
-Front right wheel bearing.
-Speedometer sensor.
-Huge dent in passenger door!
Since my owning this vehicle:
-LIGHT BULBS! blows these frequently!
-Clutch master cylinder (£160 inc. labour)
-Drivers side rear spring snapped!
General comments?
This being an ex company car was quite shabby, beat up when I bought it. Full rover dealer service history probably helped it a LOT!
Has had a front and rear ender (no records of this, but paint is orange peely on front left and rear right wings)
Even after all of this, I am still very happy and impressed with this car!
It is BMW produced and has the 2.0ltr CDT BMW engine.
This is very fast (for the cars weight) and extremely ecomomical, I average 110 miles to £10 (1/4 of a tank!) which is 50-60mpg!!
For such a big car, this is amazing! my peaugeot 106 prior to this did 40-50 on a 1.1, and weighing probably a 10th of the rovers!
It's an abused ex-company car, but not one fault to date with the engine, gearbox or any of the drive train in over 100K.
Something has to be said for this car that not only does it look tough, it is also built like a tank.
I am quite a heavy footed person, not the most careful-it takes everything that is thrown at it-and loves it!
Keep it clean, and use it well. it will last you a long time!
Wish I had leather seats, which would also be heated...
But even though it is the base model, the spec is higher than the best of vectras, mondeos etc.
Sure footed, sits at 90mph on 3,000 RPM.
Can easily do 100 from east sussex to cardiff and back every few weeks (250 miles, 500 there and back)
Easy to drive, EASY TO PARK! I don't have any parking sensors, but it really is the easiest car to park I have driven!
Can be squeezed into a gap 4" bigger than itself in 2 minutes.
Next car, in a few years, Rover 75 connoisseur petrol auto, just to have the best of what they made!
