1990 Rover - Austin 800 827 Vitesse review from UK and Ireland
"Cheap sportscar with massive practicality"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Rear offside door central locking is not working when purchased - suspect a faulty solenoid.
Occasionally after starting the starter motor would continue to operate. Have now identified a loose connection on the ignition switch which was causing this and have now rectified with the aid of a few squirts of WD40.
General comments?
Honda V6 engine is sweet and very revvy. In fact unintentional wheelspin can be achieved when pulling out from junctions.
The car I have purchased has only 28,000 miles and has been owned for the previous ten years by an elderly gentlemen who seldom used it. As a result it is in immaculate condition throughout and the engine is very tight.
Acceleration is very strong, and leaves most other cars in its wake.
Insurance is competitive - approximately £270 TPFT for me.
Only down side is the economy - although saying that it is averaging 26mpg just running to and from work and on a run I expect it would return well over 30mpg.
