1991 Rover - Austin Maestro Clubman D from UK and Ireland - Comments

"A good cheap work-horse"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Believe it or not ,absolutely nothing yet. Rust is slowly eating away the drivers door.

General comments?

The steering is heavy at low speeds, and the ashtray has started to rattle. (My fault, I broke the holding spring.)

Also in damp weather, the steering wheel feels clammy and makes your hands dirty.

I was unfortunate enough to be given a 1991 Maestro Clubman Diesel brand new in 1991 as a budding Sales Representative. Oh what Joy, that heap almost finished my Career. I was constantly late due to it never managing to travel more than 50 miles without requiring the rest of the Journey to be undertaken with the assistance of an RAC Flat Bed Tow Truck. The noise in the Cabin from the Tractor like Diesle Engine would turn any conversation into a full on Shouting Match. Luckily in 1993 I rolled it twice into a Dyke, thus writing it off. After Four Weeks hospitalisation I was back at work and walking, albeit with a Cane. My boss eventually gave in and my next Company Car was a 1993 Renault 19 16v Chamade. I had much success with the young ladies at that Job with this stunning Vehicle.

Damn guy you went from a Maestro Clubman Edition Diesel to a Renault 19 16V Chamade. You must have thought you had won the lottery, no wonder the rear seats wore out so fast. Fair play.I had a 1991 Maestro L,towards the end we decided to banger race it and guess what? Yes, it broke down on the First Lap.
