1983 Rover - Austin Maestro L review from UK and Ireland
"Nice little runner"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Temp gauge fault: shot to top and flashed the warning light when engine was clock cold.
General comments?
This car was my pride and joy back in 92 when I bought it after I passed my test, then wrote it off 9 months later!
Thought I rectified the temp gauge fault when I got an ECU from a scrappie (checked it to match the numbers on the box first) only to find the auto choke didn't work so couldn't start the car from cold! Made do with the old one.
Handled OK, but 'wheelied' if you let the clutch go go too quickly!
Engine I had was the old R series 1.6 and seriously underpowered.
