1988 Rover - Austin Metro City from UK and Ireland - Comments

3rd Dec 1998, 00:00

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Water pump failed in 1995.

General comments?

I have owned this car from new and it has never let me down. The engine is small but reliable and it does the job very well. As long as you keep them well oiled they will go forever. The seats are a little uncomfortable for long journeys and the bodywork needs looking after, but for a first car it is absolutely wonderful. Shame they are not made anymore.

I want to by a car (second hand). The car is from 1988. The price is 1.100$.

I am from Romania. Where I can find spare parts for this car in my country??? We do not have many cars like this Rover in the country. Can be that a problem?

I have found that the rover metro Austin city is one of the best at lasting. I am looking for a body kit for mine (if there are any around). I have played with my engine and it is now running four times better then what it was. I have only spent £200 on it. they are very reliable.

I am the proud owner of an Austin Metro which is a Mark 1 with the indicators in the bumper she is a city x limited edition. It is on an early F plate (88). She is temperamental, foul tempered, but a great little car. I would never part with her all the time she is still able to be repaired when need be. She has her moments when she takes on the personality of a bus, but, hey, it's a Metro! I have also given her a name as she has so much character her name is Maisey T Metro (T for The)
