1987 Rover - Austin Metro MG Turbo review from UK and Ireland
"A top tastic cheap sports runabout"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Not a lot considering how thrashed it was:
Gearbox, fuel pump, turbo wastegate actuator, hydragas suspension.
General comments?
It only cost £400 and I managed to run it with only minor servicing for two years, when it worked it was nippy, well handling, and quite economical (if you didn't thrash it). One night I drove home from Reading to Stafford at 2.00am all the way at about 100mph. Sure it's noisy, but then aren't all cars of that age and size. I've got rid of it now but I do miss it.
It had a wonderful interior, the best of any sports hatch of the era, A well nice design with its white alloys and body kit.
Yes they can be very unreliable, but if you get a good one you'll love it! I did.
