1985 Rover - Austin Metro review from UK and Ireland
"A cheap car with good handling and low fuel costs, which is a competent transport"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Not much has gone wrong with this car apart from needing some work done to the gearbox, brakes and clutch which were cheap to fix.
The interior of the car was not very hard wearing and soon the seats began to wear badly and all the bits of plastic trim fell off.
Other than that very little has gone wrong and it has been very reliable apart from some rust creeping in here and there.
General comments?
This car is very reliable, but bland and boring in comparison to the Mini, but both cars are cheap to fix.
The handling is very good despite it's bad looks and it is competent when going around bends quite fast.
The engine is weak and is best for around town though despite the noise on the motorway the car runs reasonably smoothly and without complaint. The engine is good because it is so small the insurance is low and it does not drink fuel.
The bodywork I find is not up to scratch and can rust. The plastic bumpers are not to strong either which I found out one day in a car-park.
The interior is rubbish and lacks in quality and refinement though it is quite good for the price you pay for it.
