1981 Rover - Austin Metro review from UK and Ireland
"A gutsy fighter of an engine that kept going forever, pity about the bodywork"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The body work started to fall apart through rust.
In cold weather the locks froze in the time in took to open the doors and scrap ice from the windows. This would have been fine except it did it twice and locked the doors open so they couldn't be shut again until completely defrosted!
General comments?
Although the car's body work was appalling and there was more rust than metal in the end, the car proved to be a real little fighter.
Even when its engine was hanging half out because one of the brackets that hold it in had rusted through it still managed to get me home. As reliable as my best friend.
I could drive about 200 miles on £10 of petrol which filling the tank full.
It could also shift for a little 1.0 and don't tell the police, but it did over 100 mph comfortable on the motorways.
It will always be a fond memory, my yellow metro with the number plate held on with sticky tape!
