1992 Rover - Austin Metro GTa 16v review from UK and Ireland
"Rover you like!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Something or other went wrong with a water pipe, had to fill my car with water before any journey. Fixed for a couple of quid.
Alternator earthed its self or something. This meant everytime I wanted to go anywhere I had to remove the battery and give it a 24 hour charge. Effectively I was experiencing all the bad elements associated with owning an electric car, whilst still killing the trees and paying silly £££ for petrol. Eventaully fixed it at a cost of £60.
Just passed its M.O.T at the thrifty cost of £40.
General comments?
This is my second Metro, my first being a mark 2 1990 GTa 8v (You would have thought I leant my lesson the first time round. Even worse than buying ANOTHER Rover Metro was that it looked exactly the same as my previous one, colour, wheels and everything! Hard to show off a new car to everyone with a dopleganger of a car)
All things considered though, this is an ace car. With its thrash happy 16 valve engine this car is perfect if you live in the city, its acceleration, handling and grip providing great fun in an enviroment where you can't use outright speed. Apart from that the car is pretty comfortable though
exponentially more cramped as you add more passengers.
Overall I would heartily recomend this car to anybody in their teens or early 20's. Its cheap to buy, cheap to insure for a car with hot-hatch pretension and doesn't even look that bad. The only bad thing about it is its starting to pale in comparison to my mates newer cars, ones just become good friends with a loan company and purchased a Lotus Elise.
