"Do not buy a 2000 Saab 9-5 Wagon V-6"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I've had the transmission replaced

The turbo igniters replaced

The 60,000 mile service was extremely costly

The alternator replaced

The seat belt replaced

The trunk lock mechanism replaced

The rear view mirror replaced

I've had the emissions replaced.

The thermostat replaced

General comments?

The 2000 Saab 9-5 wagon SE V-6 I currently own has been a big disappointment.

It's nice and roomy. It rides great and has all the comforts one would want in a vehicle. And before I purchased the car, I checked the consumer report, and a picture and write-up of this car was in the "best buy" section.

However, this car has been a money pit. The amount of money spent on repairs has been astronomical. The only thing that has saved me somewhat thus far is my extended warranty. Now I am hearing a whistle noise on acceleration and deceleration and I've been told that it could be my turbo going bad.

This car has been the worst purchase I've made, and I could not with a clean conscience recommend this vehicle to anyone. If you are considering a purchase, be sure to buy Saab Certified only (the dealer pays for the repairs), and have a towing service on hand.

The V6 never came turbo you should correct your post to show that you have a I4 turbo 2.3 litre not the 3.0 V6 its misleading information. Thanks.

Uh, no, the 9-5 3.0 V6 was most definitely equipped with a light-pressure turbo. Not just the 2.3 4-cylinder was turbocharged in this car.

6 cylinder is definitely a turbo. Our 9-5 SE is also a money pit. Transmission, multiple ACC problems, shocks, coil packs (regularly), blower motor, crank sensor, radiator... all at less than 100,000 miles. SAAB parts are VERY expensive. Nice car if it was reliable. Has a penchant for leaving my wife stranded on the road. And to top it off, resale values are terrible.

Considering I own a 1999 9-5se 3.0 turbo, I'm pretty sure they make it, so you are the one who needs to check their information.

I purchased my '99 9-5 SE 3.0 turbo in 2005 with 80k on it. It was a corporate lease and all service was performed by the original owner.

I have had so many issues in my 4 years of ownership it is unbelievable. Typically I drive about 20-30k miles a year for work. In the 4 years of owning this car, I have only put about 25k miles on it because it is in the shop so often and for extended periods of time that I cannot even put miles on the vehicle.

Because of this problem, I also purchased a 2005 Lexus is300 for my daily driver because of all the issues of my Saab. (I am single so I'm the only one who drives either vehicle).

In total I have spent about $9,000 in repairs alone in the 4 years I have owned it, and remember that I have only put about 25k miles on it in that period of time.

I have owned previous Saabs ('95 900se) with 150k + miles on it with no major issues. I have owned BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Audi, and even my Range Rover was much more reliable than my 9-5se.

Not only is the cost of the repairs and frequent visits to the dealer annoying at least, the "certified" technicians at the dealership had my car for 3 weeks this last time because my speedometer wasn't functional, ABS light was on, check engine light, traction control fail, check coolant all were on at one time. I was told it was a speed sensor, then it was the entire computer (5k to fix) and so on and so on. Eventually they discovered it was the speed sensor and the CPU that caused the failure, but to take 3-4 weeks to fix at the dealership because they couldn't figure it out is absurd.

NEVER buy a saab 9-5 unless you never want to drive it and are OK with spending more on repairs in a few years than the car is worth in tip top shape. (Which will NEVER happen)
