1998 SAAB 900 SE review from North America
"Great car if taken care of (change the oil every 3k miles for god's sake)"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I have had a squeaky clutch pedal - easy fix - just a little lubricant.
The window controls were shorted out so sometimes the windows wouldn't go up/down. this was again an easy replacement, I watched my mechanic do it in less than a minute literally.
Coolant sensor, ABS sensor both needed replacement.
The interior is a little noisy (creaks, road noise) but the car is 10 years old.
General comments?
This car is a lot of fun. it's got a unique personality, it's pretty quick considering the motor is about the same size as the standard motor on the jetta/passat from this year. you get 185 hp instead of something like 130 because of the turbo. it's also pretty good on gas. I get about 25-26 mpg around town. on a recent trip across NY state I averaged 30 miles per gallon. with a saab, it's important you have a good mechanic who can get decent used parts. where I live (albany, NY) the dealers are notorious for ripping people off. I found an independent mechanic who has been working almost exclusively on saabs for years. I wouldn't want to own this car without having that comfort.
