1984 SAAB 900 900T review from North America
"Great car, I love it!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Standard maintenance is required of course!
At about 60K miles the turbo started slowly going bad and it was dumping oil by about a quart every 500 miles by the time I replaced it. The electric antenna quit going up and down.
At about 145K miles the CV boots tore, the brake master cylinder began leaking, and the electric sunroof quit operating.
After sitting for 5 years and putting back on the road,
at about 150K miles the ac quite blowing cold and though it was a typical and easy fix of freon and new evaporator/drier, however, the ventilation routing is not right, sometimes just cold comes out, but sometimes hot air comes with the cold regardless of where the ventilation selector is set. The headliner is a mess and the leather seats are pretty much ruined by neglect and the heat of Arizona, my fault, not the car's.
Also the fuel lines began leaking and all the rubber related to the fuel system around the fuel tank started leaking.
At about 160K miles the odometer went intermittent, and it began running hot with the outside air temps of over 105F and at highway speeds. Radiator repair looks like it will fix the the temp problem. The dash lights don't all come on and the ignition switch doesn't work the way its supposed to.
General comments?
I love this car. It hugs the road and feels comfortable, safe and solid at the same time it moves right along in the desert and in the mountains. It has been very dependable!
