A very fast car.

Very good quality parts.
I bought a 1985 Saab 900Turbo SPG coupe last year (red, tan leather, 5-spd, power everything, SPG wheels, and tint) it has about 141K, and I love it! The responce from the turbo is excellent! Very fast if you want it to be! Handles like a true european sports cars should! Havn't had any major problems at all. With 5 other cars, I would not hesitate to buy another Saab!
I also have a saab 900turbo 1985,2000cc,16 valve. it is also red with tan leather and goes like a rocket! it has 180k and I am wondering if I should have the timing belt changed.
I am purchasing an 85 Saab 900 turbo in 3 days. I'm so excited, I can't wait to start driving it. Also red with Tan leather interior, sunroof, cd-sound system.
Someone told me that they didn't make turbo 900 hatchbacks in 85, unless it was an SPG. Is this not true?

Silly silly, do you think a REAL SAAB motor would be designed with a cheezy timing belt? NO WAY, SAAB used timing chains and they are one of the least replaced things in them.
Boy do I miss owning one... My ex has all three of ours still. A 1986 8v, 1987 SPG, and a 1988 900S.
They are truly addictive. We use to drive only Volvos, then we tried a SAAB. Very cheap parts and easy to work on except the transmissions.
Yes, I agree! I have read a lot about Saab and the engineering behind them. The manual gearbox is driven by 3 chains, so if two of them break, the last one will still do the job. Same with the timing chains. I had an automatic SAAB 900 that I had loved and drove it till the master cylinder for the brakes went out. So I bought another 900, this time with a manual gearbox, and I am even happier. I love the power, the handling, it is a gorgeous red (all original) and I like the ammenities that it came standard with. Truly a safe, stout, and very solid hard-to-kill vehicle! They have the best personality on the road and very distinctive. You can spot one in a gridlocked highway from a mile away!
I own a 1985 900S four door. I bought it new in November 1985 while stationed with the Air Force in West Germany. I still drive her with the same enthusiasm and thrill I did when I took delivery of her some twenty plus years ago. I've never had any major problems, I replaced the clutch kit and master cylinder at 129,000 miles. She has 140K now and still has the original shocks, wheel bearings and most everything. Engine never touched, but for minor maintenance. I love this car and would only buy SAAB.
