1994 SAAB 900 SE V6 review from UK and Ireland
"Highly underrated, but regular cambest/tensioner changes imperative"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Power Steering hose failed at 90,000.
Front Suspension top mounts needed replacing at 110,000.
Rear brake cylinders and brake lines replaced at 110,000.
Exhaust downpipe replaced at 110,000.
Drivers seat squab collapsed (gradually got worse from about 90,000 - still to be replaced)
Engine blew at 130,000 due to snapped cambelt (caused by tensioner failure) - my fault as didn't replace it for over 60,000 - Galling part was it was booked in for a replacement when it failed. Replaced engine with a 3.0L V6 from a 9000 Griffin - something Saab should have offered from day one!!
General comments?
Not the quietest or best handling car I've ever owned and with the 2.5L quick, but nothing to set the world on fire. Good long distance, high speed cruiser though.
Swap the 2.5L engine for a 3.0L one and it's a stealth, road rocket with immense mid range punch that makes it more than a match for anything.
Very juicy though - don't expect to average much more than 25mpg.
