1996 SAAB 900 review from Norway
"A first class piece of engineering"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Difficulty finding reverse (280000 kilometres). Needed readjustment.
New hoses required at 303000 kilometres.
General comments?
An excellent vehicle. Reliable in all weathers (starts in -30 on a normal battery). Heater has never been on top notch.
Seats very comfortable although driver's seat is flatter after the long mileage.
Accelleration average, plenty of overtaking power in 4th gear.
Rust on doors at bottom. Otherwise none.
Brakes good. Handbrake squeaks and needs regular adjustment and lubrication. This is the biggest minus about this car.
Economical on long journeys, approx. 7 litres per 100 kilometres. Low octane fuel.
Safety 10/10. My previous 900 (95 model) saved my life in a head-on at 90 kms/hr when an Volvo 240 crossed over in front of me in 1998.
