New battery.
Alternator (own fault due to reverse polarity on radio during D.I.Y. install).
Front pads.
Exhaust back-box.
Passenger central locking actuator.
Interior temperature sensor.
Light switch.
Very sturdy, very well made, solid paintwork.
Handling was atrocious, have fitted poly bushes which are popular upgrade but don't do the front drop link bushes. Bring a certain harshness over small bumps, but the ride is altogether more cohesive now as opposed to the sloppiness that was there.
Previous owner wasn't servicing obsessed, so first thing was to service paying particular attention to oil (Saab synthetic turbo oil), & filter & flushed the engine as pipes can sludge up.
A lot can be done on these cars to improve performance. Do the research on buying via any Saab owners forum (Saab scene), get your initial purchase right and you will be laughing with regular maintenance. Parts all readily available second hand - like C/L actuator was 30.00 and not 130.00 via main dealer. Loads of good independent specialists about anyhow.
If your gut instinct is right you'll do well. Very comfortable well equipped cruiser that doubles up as a mini van. Feels slightly old school but a true motorway muncher.
Oh and they don't make them like this any more. Not even new Benz has this quality feel - truly hewn from granite. Around town it does 27-30 mpg. Best was 700 mile journey on highway at 80mph returned 44mpg.
OK - have had the car a while longer. Now has 69K on the odometer.
Further changes: ITG sports Air filter (45gbp), tightened up the exhaust manifold to turbo pipe, Plusgas (12gbp) helped. Cleaned IAC (auto idle control valve) at the same time as flushing and renewing the coolant with 5yr long life Halfords anti freeze (22gbp) and replacing thermostat (8gbp) with a genuine Saab thermostat, which is importantly 3 stage and NOT 2 stage unlike cheap OEM thermostats.
Reason: was stuck at 26mpg due to stuck thermostat (it was OEM 2 stage waxstat and utterly RUBBISH) essentially running on auto choke all the time as thermostat fooling ECU telling it that car was cold all the time.
Also renewed oil with Mobil 1 supersyn 0W-40 (38gbp) and genuine black Saab filter (8gbp), which filters finer particles than the blue Saab oil filter. Flushed the engine with Comma engine flush (4gbp) and surprised to find that the oil was absolutely 'FILTHY' and grainy. So well worth doing and only after 5000 miles since the last change.
Now idling rock solid. Further now running stage 2 map via ECU project free online resource to remap the ECU - very much DIY. Running around 230/240 WHP.
Cost 50.00 for second hand ECU and another 100GBP for APC/BPC solenoid and associated pipework as well as NORGREN one way valve for crankcase ventilation.
Stupendous performance around 7s 0-60mph and mid range performance now just flies. Now it's fantastic!!! Mileage still between 27 and 60mpg (at steady 50mph) as measured by trip computer. Cannot believe I did this all by myself!
Can pretty much run it on peanuts if you know where to look.
IF I CAN YOU CAN! Well worth thinking about! Great car. Now to get some serious suspension. Just SUPERB!!! No other car has this potential or is as easy to work on DIY.
