2003 Saturn ION Quad review from North America
"I will never buy a Saturn or GM ever again"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Both front doors fell off the hinges that were made of cheap plastic, and it's always hot here in New Mexico, and we are not too far from the Arizona border. One day we both opened the doors and they came right off the car and on to the ground. This was fixed under warranty.
The center arm rest broke off and was not fixed under warranty.
The windshield formed a crack across the whole windshield, and Saturn said we had to take it to a glass place and would not fix it, even though the car is under warranty.
The volume knob on the radio fell off, and I'm not going to bother taking another chance with Saturn.
The panic button will only work when I'm standing right next to the car, even with new batteries.
When I drive, the hood keeps rattling so bad I feel that it will just pop open anytime. I always make sure that the hood is shut all the way and still this.
Cruise control stopped working with less than 20,000 miles on it.
The control module had to be replaced at 95,000 miles.
The mass air flow sensor had to be replaced at 100,000.
The speed sensor had to be replaced at 97,000 miles.
Tail pipe, muffler, and catalytic converter had to be replaced at 102,000 miles.
The battery light keeps coming on and the brand new battery that I just got keeps draining as I'm driving.
Head gasket started going about 38,000 miles. Since then I had it in Saturn because the car was under warranty and I refused to pay even one penny, but I had it in so so many times and they were never able to fix the problem. Now the engine is bad because of them and my warranty expired. Saturn is only willing to pay 5% for a new engine while I have to pay the rest.
One day while driving. All of the sudden both front air bags just deployed out of nowhere. Saturn said they never saw anything like this ever. They kept our car for over a month replacing the airbags, sensors, and harness. Then they tell us the sensor came up as an impact and would have to be turned over to our insurance company. This cost about $5,000. If this was an impact, then why did they replace everything if they had no idea why they deployed.
We then decided to file a lawsuit against Saturn and General Motors. After about a year of our car in their possession, they paid the rest of the car payments that were left so at least now the car is paid off, they paid lawyer fee's, rental car's, and paid for the repairs that we could not afford to pay. However GM will not admit that this is their fault.
General comments?
I have become a more and more angry person, and has gone way down the money pit because of this car. I just hope this car will not give me anymore problems for a while, so I can gain back on money so I can buy another car and get rid of this General Motor's crap.
