1997 Saturn SC SC2 review from North America
"Reliable and Fun"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Valve cover gasket started leaking.
Interior panels are cheap and have started to make noise.
General comments?
In general I have been impressed at how well my SC2 has held up. the car is sporty looking and fun to drive. I will admit I have beat on this car quite a bit since I bought it. I even took it to the drag strip and beat a mustang v6. but for as much as I beat on the car it just seems to run. the only problems I have had have been minor and easily repaired by myself. the biggest complaint I have with Saturn is the cheap interior materials they used. this past year the door panels and dash have started vibrating and make noise at certain speeds. This may be part my fault for installing a loud sub-woofer in my trunk.
I get 32-35 MPG consistently. I did have a problem with the manual tranny when one of the shifting linkage came off the transmission. this happened because a locking washer fell off. So I was stuck in 4th gear on a highway. I had to pull over and put hook the linkage back up. I bought a lock washer and its as good as new. If you make sure to maintain your Saturn and change oil regularly it'll last a long time. For the money I have spent on this car it is a very good deal. I also love the good gas mileage.
