Unfortunately, the previous owner did not take good care of the mechanical parts of the car.
The previous owner burned out the clutch and put ruts into the front brake rotors. I had to replace the clutch the first month I had it-and the bad part was the hydraulics also had to be replaced as the new clutch was too heavy for the older hydraulics. That was not fun. I also had to replace the back drum brake on the driver's side. Apparently, the previous owner also slammed on his/her brakes too much and blew out the cylinder on the drum brake-leaking brake fluid all over the brake and causing me not to be able to stop. I had to also replace the spark plugs as the previous owner didn't add oil when needed and killed the poor spark plugs-luckily, this did not harm the engine.
Personally, even with all of the issues the previous owner caused, I love this car. This is my 4th car and I am very happy with it. I only need to buy gas about 1 time a week, and it costs about $25.00 a week-very affordable with gas prices above $3.00 a gallon.
The oil is a bit of a pain, but is much better than having to buy gas all the time.
The manual transmission makes a huge difference-the acceleration is very noticeable compared to other cars that are automatic.
It still shifts like a dream-I don't have over reeving or any "grinding".
All in all, I like this car. I would recommend if you could find one that was well taken care of to snap it up-a steal at about $2,200 KBB price.
The '95 SL1 had a 1.9L I-4, not a 1.6.
