1998 Saturn SL 2 review from North America

Rack and Pinion started leaking around 45,000 miles. When I did take it to my local Saturn dealership they wiped the leak and said it was fine but another mechanic told me to take it back before my warranty was up. Prior to my warranty expiring I moved to a new county and went to their Saturn dealership and told them what the last Saturn dealership had said and the outside mechanic. They checked my rack and pinion and would not allow me to leave with my car stating it was not road safe and that they would replace it as soon as the part came in. I was very pleased with the service I received that day.

Motors to both the front and rear passenger side windows had to be replaced and the new front motor stopped working about 14 months after it was installed. I no longer have a warranty and it costs about 750.00 for parts and installation so I will do the work myself as soon as I purchase a good manual. Any suggestions on how to remove the face plate in the center console that surrounds the window controls would be much appreciated.

Reverse does make a thunk sound when it first engages if I give it gas right away but I find if I wait for it to engage there is no thunk.

I do some of the maintenance and repairs myself and find it has been pretty easy to work on.

I really enjoy my Saturn SL2 automatic that I bought used with 27,978 miles and was happy I purchased the extended warranty.

No parts last forever and I do find that if I keep up the general maintenance and changing of fluids my car runs great.

I find the seats very comfortable and my commute can be up to 3 hours daily.

My Saturn seems to like freeway miles because it runs great and has been very dependable and I am up to 181,000 miles now. I hope it just keeps right on going!!
