1995 Saturn SL SL1 review from North America
"You usually get what you pay for -- with my SL1 I got much more than I expected"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Piston rings @ 97,000 miles is the only real major repair to the car. While that cost around $2400 (incl. labor), the car has pretty much ran flawlessly since.
Hit a deer at 120,000 (at 3:00 a.m. -- it's almost impossible not to see lots of them where I live --- guess it was going to eventually happen) and that did $1500 worth of damage (repair shop said it would have been more in a car that wasn't mostly fiberglass).
General comments?
It's a daily driver (96 miles per day), and I couldn't ask for better mileage (approx 42 mpg). Reasonably comfortable, and it's been used as a pickup (folding rear seats) many times. Dealership has been very reliable and courteous every time I need service (which is regularly).
The car may not be the fastest on the planet, but it handles extremely well, especially for a vehicle with so many miles on it. Only desire would be a heater that warms up a little quicker.
