2002 Saturn SL sl1 review from North America
"I would buy another one"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Head gasket began leaking within 20,000km. however, since it wasn't losing more than 2 litres per 5,000km dealer wouldn't replace it under warranty. it goes through, consistently, 1.5 litres per 5,000km.
Rotors went at 270,000km - I drive roughly 10km per day on gravel
ignition sticks bad and has since about 230,000km
power steering pump making some noise at 350,000km.
General comments?
I bought it new for commuting purposes, it's not pretty but it has been extremely reliable, especially for the mileage.
I find road noise is quieter in my saturn than it was in my grand caravan and my intrepid before that.
Not a speed demon by any stretch.
Gas mileage differs by 10mpg from summer to winter
it has enough room for my kids to stuff 2 hockey bags in.
