Engine mount broken and car idled hard.
Door insulation seems flimsy.
Air conditioner is feeble, like a old man in a walker.
Engine feels like it is breathing heavy at all times and runs hard.
Drinks oil like a college kid drinks beer at a phrat party.
Cruise control never really worked for long.
Overheats in hot weather unless on freeway air cooling engine.
Other misc. parts totaling $900 after purchase.
Other than the faults of being unreliable this car is awesome for what it is.
Great mileage (35mpg, not the way I drive though)
Awesome handling (I took a turn at 45mph that stated 25mph *with nice H class tire designed for snow/rain* and cleared it easy, almost watched a SUV behind me bite the dust off a 70ft drop... just a note out there... those signs are there for a reason people... I wonder why there wasn't a gaurd rail to accompany the sign?)
After a few repairs from the previous owners neglect the car ran awesome with scheduled oil changes and very little maintenance.
Acceleration is sluggish, but it makes up for it in handling.
Overall, I would recommend this car for the average person who recieves one in good condition and follows guideline maintenace procedures. For the car buff out there, it could use some more *umph* on acceleration, but handling it does nicely.
I feel that your comment on the sluggish take offs is not correct by any means. I just bought a 93 sl2 with 156,000 miles on it and without the performance button pushed I get 0 to 60 times of 5.3 seconds. I do not feel that is anywhere sluggish and for all the "big wing" car owners I have one thing to say "IMPORT THIS!"
