1996 Saturn SL review from North America
"Reliability and economy"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
As of the time I wrote this review, the only items I have had to replace were
standard "maintenance" items.
I just replaced the oxygen sensor at
113,000 miles...'SERVICE ENGINE" light
repeatedly glowed.
Replaced the coolant mixture in August
2005...was dirty and needed flushing.
Had brakes adjusted in August 2005 also-did not, however, require any further repairs to the system.
General comments?
I have been quite pleased overall with the
purchase of my 1996 Saturn in July 2005.
The car is dependable and is also economical from the standpoint of fuel consumption, which is of chief importance
in the age of $2.00+ gas prices. I have
been averaging a decent 35 miles per gallon and get 400 miles out of a tank of
gas!!!
The car's suspension and driveability is
acceptable...it is certainly not a smooth, luxurious ride like a Cadillac
or Oldsmobile.
The manual transaxle is adequate; it is,
however, somewhat more difficult to shift that other manuals that I've driven in the past...and, of course,
this model came standard without power
steering...I guess you just get used to
it after while.
Other systems on the car...i.e. power,
internal controls--heat, a/c, etc.
And overall reliability rank this car
fairly high in my book... A modest
car at a modest price.
