I bought my Saturn because it was a "New kind of Car"... as well as Warranty and friends suggestions, I'll NEVER make that mistake again!
Previously I owned Toyotas and Never had Problems, one week after I bought my Saturn SL1 NEW, it died on me 3 times, the first time the dealership repaired it and said Nothing was wrong with it,
the same day I brought it home it died AGAIN a second time!
Finally after taking it back to the dealership after the Third time of the car breaking down on me they figured out it was one little Fuse that was Killing the whole Car's System!! It took them 3 TIMES to figure out the problem and a lot of my time that was NOT compensated for!
My Saturn has also had the "Check Engine Light" on for sometime and after taking it back repeatedly and not resolving the problem I've learned to live with it on...
Now it's Drinking a lot of Oil and I have to refill the oil more than usual, even though I've kept it maintained over the years and put in more money than it's worth!
The Emergency Brake button Flew off one day while I was Driving because a small part inside the assembly broke, and now to top it off, the Fabric on my Ceiling is coming loose and now touching my head as I drive!
What a piece of Junk!! Now I find out that all a Saturn SL1 is worth now (In GOOD CONDITION) is $600.00 and because it was so Poorly made it's not even worth that!
I feel like I was Scammed after Buying the Saturn SL1, and for the $11,000.00 + I paid for it I feel that I paid $10,000.00 TOO MUCH!!
I'll NEVER BUY A SATURN AGAIN, not will I suggest anyone else do it either!
I have to agree with this person I also have a Saturn same year and all and around 80,000 miles the automatic transmission collapsed. Paint is faded really bad on hood and interior isn't holding up well. It also guzzles oil and is slow very slow I can barely keep up with traffic. It makes lots of noises that noone can figure out. I see that different kind of company was sucked in to the GM machine and now they are just clones like the rest of the GM cars.
I am an owner of a 1997 Saturn SL1 that I bought new and I haven't had any problems out of my car! For me, it has been a great and tough little car. I will admit after 10 years the headliner is showing wear and I am planning on replacing it, but I don't feel 10 years of service warrants a complaint. That is not to say that I haven't had to have any work at all on the car, I have had to replace the alternator and have some brake work done, but everything considered I have not put a lot of money into my car and I have gotten a lot of service!
I own a 1997 Saturn SL1. This car has over 224,000 miles on it. I have not had any problems with the car.
One of the best things is that I see all of the Japanese cars that have rust on them and my little Saturn does not.
I have also gotten up to 45 mpg, and I average 42 mpg.
I have only replaced the oxygen sensor on my car, but that was when I first bought the car, but it sat for a year and had over 155,000 miles then.
I bought the car for $800 and have only put gas in it and changed the oil. Mine does not burn it.
My friend bought a Honda, and besides the fact that he paid over 8 times more for the same year, his car is falling apart with less than 150,000 miles.
Another thing is that people don't realize that GM has made the most influential of all time, the SBC. They started Saturn in the late 80's to try to make a small car that got good mileage. So the company is still not that old. And GM along with all others have made their share of lemons, but that is just how it goes. Thanks.
