2002 Saturn VUE FWD review from North America
"Nice car, but too bad for the problems"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
At 32,000 km's the same broken spring noise from the front drivers side that my sunfire always had appeared. I knew from my sunfire that menat the upper strut mounts were gone. Sure enough I went to a local Saturn dealer and they had to replace them. seems the original design was flawed and the new ones were a new design (so they told me). Since then front and rear sway bars have had to be replaced because they seized. Seems the mechanic didn't install the replacements properly and had to have them redone. Steering column had to be replaced because they couldn't get rid of the noise, now it shimmies at 100 km's an hour. When questioned about the steering and the noise the dealer said saturn has a problem and the only thing they could do was grease the boots with a special grease $18.00 a tube (the size of an electric razor oil tube) Seems the front strut mounts have to be done again because the broken spring noise is back. That was why I got rid of my sunfire. For you people not on the metric system a car that has to have this kind of work done at 25-35,000 miles is not a quality car. I have spent countless hours in the service dept while GM's policy was to replace only one part at a time ie: replace only the upper mount instead of the whole strut assembly and the next day the remainder had to be done anyway because it had failed.
General comments?
After purchasing two new vehicals from GM and both having the same front end problems I won't purchase from them again.
Change your policy and replace all parts associated with the problem not just pieces since you end up doing it anyway.
Increase your basic warranty to match that of imports if you want to keep your customers.
