I was just about ready to buy a used 2005 XB, but after reading about these windshields, I am going to look for something else.

Yeah, just yesterday I went out to my xB and found that my windshield was cracked about 10", from the top passenger side, curving down and towards the driver side. I treat my car like a baby, so of course I'm freaking out and immediately looking at warranty papers and finding phone numbers. When I drove to the dealership (during which time, about 15 minutes, the crack grew about 2 1/2"), the service guy was way too set on saying that it was from some kind of impact. Yet, there's no way they can prove it. And I know for a fact that it wasn't some kind of impact - if a rock hit my windshield, I would hear it, and probably cry. I've searched for the past 5 hours and almost 85% of the cases were cracked windshields due to pressure... and most xB owners know how much of a vacuum gets in the car when the windows are rolled up. The dealership took pictures and are having the Regional Technicians see what they can do, but knowing my luck they'll just say "Well, it was a rock, so we owe you nothing, yet we'll charge you an arm and a leg for an oil change."

Whoever said this guy was lying is insane. There is an entire website dedicated to this issue:

I've owned my xb for 8 months, and I love it.

I just had my first windshield replaced this week, no questions asked.

I have never had a real issue with service either. top notch!

Did he say he owed $24,000?... for a Scion??? They couldn't load this car with ANYTHING that would make me pay $24,000 for it. Marketing is a pretty powerful thing. People will believe anything is a good looking, cool car with the right ad campaign(even literally a box with 103 hp...)

My 2006XB took off after I put it in park to run to my sons apartment. The car followed me ran over a light pole and slammed into the stair rail... I was horrified. I had gotten out and it wasn't moving... till I heard a crash and saw my car at the bottom of the stairs. This all happened in 2 minutes max... I had noticed two days before it reving at 60 mph and not shifhting. Yes it's an automatic. No I shouldn't have left it running. I was on my way to work and wasn't there to stay... scare me...any one out there experience this sort of thing?

I am starting to think that EVERY negative comment re: the XB is from the same person...hmmm.

I have had my xB for over two years now, still has the stock window, amazing, because so do the other 3 that my friends own.

And if you want to bring up the fact it has no HP, then don't forget it gets around 35mpg.

As far as wind, it's noticeable, not enough for me to even care.

I have 90,000 miles on my 05 Scion Xb; nothing but happy thoughts.

I was actually looking for a feedback site to suggest to Scion that they make their later Scions like their earlier ones. I bought a 2004 xB four years ago and have loved driving and owning it. I’d like to give it to a friend and get another later model. Unfortunately the reasons that I bought it have pretty much all been changed in the latest models.

Things I like in my 2004 xB:

The incredible headroom and backseat leg room.

The handling. It hugs the corners. Because it is so low to the ground, and relatively wide, it handles like a go-cart. Steering is firm and the shifting is very solid.

The length (shorter than a Honda Civic).

The ease of getting in and out because it is so low to the ground.

The great all-around vision with all the glass (and no, I have never had a crack or any window issues, and I am careful not to drive directly behind big trucks..).

The speedometer placement on the dashboard so that you do not have to look down and take your eyes off the road.

The small, fuel efficient engine (I get over 35 mpg all the time, and I do mostly city driving). I didn’t get this car to race others. I have had my share of spots cars (I’m older) and no longer wish to go over 90 mph.

I have never had a problem with space to carry stuff. I go to Ikea, Home Depot, or the nursery for big bamboo plants, and put down the back seat (s) if necessary.

My bikes hang perfectly on the back.

The cost. $16K and change with mats, teflon coating, Lo-Jack.

Things I’d like Scion to add:

• a sixth gear (I have the five speed manual) for highway cruising.

• some kind of painted or body-shaped horizontal line to break up the boxiness.

• being able to buy another car like my 2004 xB...

The original reviewer's comments seem strange... who on earth would replace a windshield three times in one week, even if it DID break? I've read and written plenty of reviews on carsurvey, and have not seen one like this. Something about it seems fishy to me.

From Fl. driver:

I developed my L shaped windshield crack this morning. Believe these posts.

I have had my xB since Nov.04. No replacement windshield yet, are your cracks all from road debris? If not then the sunroof may be the problem - when you lose structural integrity, you get body flex, which can crack your glass.
