2000 Skoda Fabia Classic review from UK and Ireland
"Drives well, but a reliability risk"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
New steering Rack need.
New tyre as result of tracking fault.
Two new water pumps.
Two new coolant reservoirs.
Petrol cap remote failed twice.
Wipers/Washer motor fuses blown 3 times.
Two new aerials fitted.
Temperature sensor failed once.
General comments?
Car has solid feel and handles very well indeed. 8-valve 1.4 engine as a bit arthritic, but gets there in the end. Car is let down by some irritating design faults, for example:
The Petrol/boot release catches are hard to get at and the washer reservoir capacity is insufficient, requiring constant topping up in bad weather.
Said reservoir is poorly situated by air intake and - in cold weather - resulting wind-chill cause water to freeze, blowing the fuse that jointly serves both washer and wiper motors.
Our car has suffered from a constant drip of minor faults (some listed above) but we are going to persevere and buy another Skoda in the hope that the quality of build and components has improved since we bought our early model.
