At 32000 miles, the stitching on the driver's seat started to fail. The dealer immediately accepted that this fault is covered under the manufacturer's warranty. Whilst the dealer was fitting the replacement seat cover, the stitching on that failed resulting in some damage to the internal parts of the seat back. The dealer has ordered a replacement seat back which will hopefully be fitted in the near future. The seat remains usable whilst awaiting the replacement of this part.
There are two minor design faults worthy of mention.
Firstly, the boot can only be opened by a lever inside the car by the driver's door which is a nuisance when wanting access to the boot only and not the car's interior - a boot lock is far more practical and no less secure.
Secondly, rear visibility is relatively poor due to the thickness of the rear pillars.
Other than that, an excellent car giving 50+ mpg.
The OEM power locks has that nice button on rear door that allows you to open trunk from outside. Furthermore, if you have remote control, it allows you to open trunk only just by pressing the button.
I own '01 Fabia Combi Classic with such power locks and recently I had my dealer to set it up for automatic locking after car set up on movement. I like it a lot!

Eight thousand miles and several months later, Skoda Customer Services (via my local dealer) have replaced the entire seat and given me a choice of "freebies" as a gesture of goodwill in recognition of the delays in resolving this problem.
I have had my skoda fabia 1.4 classic for just about 2 months now. It was not bought new or from a skoda dealer (2001 Y reg) but at just less than 3000 with 47K on the clock I have to admit I am very pleased with it. I am still waiting for another key, the car only came with one and still now am waitng for the dealer to receive another spare. I agree about the comments about the boot boot door too, what a pain having to re open the car every time I forget. Also miss remote locking and keep forgetting to open doors for passengers. Had radio changed as that awfull thing that came with it was well crap.
Now the good points, overall very pleased indeed feels well built and mostly fault free up to now. Bit basic, but there again at that price, what can I ask. I will certainly consider another skoda, but maybe not burnt orange. Not even sure if they do that colour anymore!!!

1.4 Classic Fabia - sluggish and thirsty - would go back to my Peugeot 306 1.9td any day! - (if it hadn't died of old age!)
If I had a bit more money to spend, I would definitely have gone for the golf equivalent 1.9 TDI Fabia. Hey-ho, beggars can't be choosers as they say!
