"Should be good resale, generally good, but long time doubtful"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Car was not clean when picked up, new from dealer.

Dashboard rattles from centre consol and airvents-replaced several times

under warranty.

Brake light switch replaced under warranty- a common VW fault.

Rear doors leak water, cannot be fixed.

Major electrical fault, £2000 of warranty work to replace PCM, ECM control units, fault eventually was a broken wire in the door electrics!

Drivers side electric window motor-replaced under warrany, now window rattles, dealer refuses to fix it.

Brake disks warped at 29500 miles, dealer refuses to fix them under warranty.

Radio reception is extreamly poor, dealer refuses to fix it under warranty.

Some trim is falling off.

Seat groans and rattles sometimes, dealer refuses to fix under warranty.

General comments?

I went from a poorly built renault to what I though would be a solid made VW car, but is hasn't turned out like that. I like the engine, the economy is great and generally the build, but there are too many little faults with the car, some very serious and expensive if noit fixed under warranty, makes long term ownership difficult, also dealer network in tyne & wear poor, only 2 to choose from and both are very small garages with huge waiting lists. hmmm I wonder why.

Sounds like you were very unlucky, I have had my TDi estate since 2001, done 29000 miles and have had virtually no problems (the pipe to the rear wash-wipe comes off after a heavy frost - that's been it!). Sounds like you have a Czech "Friday" car, as I know someone else with one and he also swears by it!
