"The potential is there"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Almost everthing possible.

Rear windscreen heater failure.

Coolant leaks.

Rear windscreen wash/wipe pipes leaking.

Faulty headrests.

Front anti-roll bar wearing out rubber bushes (sockets) causing rattling.

Broken wheel trims and dent when we picked it up.

Lose fascia on back doors.

Problems with power steering alarm.

Water pump failure.

Constant engine whining.

Front wheel tracking problems. Causing bill for realingnment and new tyres.

Jamming drives window.

Problems with the ECU.

There are a few more things, but I'll leave it at that, because I can't remember them all.

General comments?

Unbelelievably we bought this car from a Skoda dealer.

The car performs well a general rule of thumb, its just that things keep wrong.

The service we have received from our dealer has also been dire.

Another strange thing that we have just discovered is a mysterious problem with the mileage. When we put down our deposit and the car was ours the mileage was 24169, however when the service was done a month later, one day before we picked it up the mileage was 24448, a difference of 279 miles done between the time of purchase and time of picking it up.

I've had 4 previous Skoda's - a Favorit, Felicia & 2 Fabias. I now have an Octavia and none have had any major problems.

I have also had (amongst other cars) a Rover 400 which I eventually dumped back on the dealer (13 faults in 5 months), a brand new Alfa 156 which had to go back to the dealer after 4 months because the shock absorbers were fitted back to front and a Fiat Stilo which kept on warning me of ABS, ASR and Catastrophic failures.

My 1st thought is, did you get the car inspected? This surely would have spoted some of the problems?

Second point if you bought the car from a Skoda agent was the car under a Skoda approved warranty? If it was it would be worthwile writing to Skoda UK.

Finally, if it is under a Skoda warranty try another Skoda dealer. Skoda seem to have taken on a lot of ex VW agents. Some of these are good if a little expensive. Some are horrors - my Felicia, although a good car was supplied by a dealer who I would never go back to, even for a light bulb.

There are still a few genuine older dealers out there, who should be cherished. I suggest you try to find one of these.
