1998 Skoda Felicia SLXi review from UK and Ireland
"Forget the jokes and enjoy - you have the last laugh!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The front CV boot needed to be replaced at MOT.
Rust appearing round rear wheel arches from stone chips.
General comments?
I'm very pleased with this car. It's very refined and performance is lively.
Good safety features with ABS and twin airbags on top of the range SLXi model - worth seeking out. I have proved these are tough and safe cars - I had a 1.3 estate and wrote it off in a head on collision at 40 mph, but escaped with a few bruises and passenger cell totally intact... hence buying another one to replace it!
It sometimes wallows around corners on twisting roads - handling could be sharper.
Spacious and comfortable, although suspension a little hard around town.
Economy about 40 mpg - not bad for a 1.6 and better than my previous 1.3.
Would definitely advise seeking out the 1.6 rather than the slower and noisier 1.3 and the unrefined, but ultra economical 1.9 diesel (a relative has one).
A genuine bargain buy - understated looks.
