Slight driver seat wear.
This car has serious power, it has very quick acceleration and will easily cruse at about 70mph on any motorway.
The Octavia uses a Hadlex clutch system and this controls whether either 2 or 4 wheels are driven. There is an unoticable change when this happens which gives a very smooth ride even on surface changes.
The Electronic Stability Program (ESP) is very useful when cornering, pulling away, slowing down etc as it stops wheel spin, brakes the engines, contols the distribution of torque between which ever wheels are being driven giving the power you will always need.
In the cabin you can have control over either front/rear electric windows and an electric sunroof. Or use the wonderful climate control system giving the ambient temperature you may desire all year round.
This car may bring laughs as a 4x4 but it is no jokes I have taken it off road and it performs excellently - more than enough torque for the job.
It is a bargin compared to the A4 or passat which are it rivals which will only have two wheel drive at this price. They have been left at the lights with this beast.
People may go for the A4 or the passat, but why be a sheep when you could be a wolf!
I have an 02 4 x 4 Octavia Elegance and It's just as the reviewer says, solid, safe, fast, comfortable, and best of all, extremely competitively priced. The boot is huge and with the rear seats down, almost as roomy as the estate version. Fuel consumption is around 26-28 around town with the climate control on. With it off, consumption improves by about 10 to 15%. Motorway runs at around 80-85 return around 34 to 36 mpg, so given the mix of power it's pretty good. Sure beats those 'Chelsea cruisers'as an all rounder.
Niggles: I've had the battery replaced twice, there was a current leak somewhere in the interior light electrics. Fixed under warranty.
Since fixing that, the central locking is playing up, it unlocks itself leaving the interior light on. It's going back to the dealer for sorting. Impressed with dealership, very helpful and courteous. I'd definitely buy Skoda again, forget the badge, it's Audi quality at great prices.
I also have an 02 4x4 Elegance Estate - By far the best car I've ever had I just love the looks on peoples faces when you leave them sitting behind at the traffic lights - great engine!
As far as off roading goes it's a solid perfomer - hindered a little by its ground clearence, but what can be expected it is a standard estate car.
Iv taken our Octavia off road in Yorkshire and Scotland and it was more than up to the job took it up and down slopes I would have never thought possible of a car and the best fun is cross country in the winter snow!!
Great fun, solid performer and by far excellently priced car... Thanks Skoda gd to c uv shown everyone up...AGAIN!
Good build quality, its just the badge that make it poor. quite slow for turbo lump.

Bought a used Elegance 4X4 Turbo 8 weeks ago and I'm a seriously happy person.
The car is very well equipped, solid, comfortable. pretty economical (average 29 round town and 35 on motorway) and it goes like a stabbed rat!!!.
Would recommend the Skoda Octavia range without hesitation.
Would'nt mind trying a VRS though!!.
