1990 Skoda Rapid 136 Coupe review from UK and Ireland
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Alternator, fuel pipe, front shocks, suspension bushes.
General comments?
What a laugh! Extremely entertaining car on slow speed roads, such as B-roads. Scary on the motorway especially due to the lack of weight over the front wheels making it dangerously easy to lock the front wheels - you soon learn cadence braking as an essential skill!
Beautifully tactile car - you feel absolutely everything that is going on especially through the steering so when understeer turns into oversteer (as it invariably does) it is controllable. Rear end does break away very pendumously and suddenly sometimes though - you have to be careful. If you want a car that teaches you to drive better, this is the one as it rewards smoothness, braking in straight lines, balancing on throttle through bends, etc. Be care-free and you'll end up in the hedge.
A neo-classic.
