1997 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport 2.2 from North America

Summary:

The best car in the world for the adventurer

Faults:

Replaced spark plugs - the dealer said the wrong type had been installed (before I bought it, evidently). Weird, but easy and cheap to fix.

General Comments:

Totally reliable. I love this car - it is absolutely fun to drive. Corners are more fun than I ever knew they could be :)

It handles like a dream, and is great off-road and in the snow. I'll never be without AWD again. It's actually hard to get the rear end to slide out, even when you're doing donuts in the snow.

While the interior isn't luxurious, the seats remain comfortable even on 10+ hour drives.

Lots of interior space - great for people into outdoor activities who have lots of gear.

1997 Subaru Impreza Turbo 2.0 turbo petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Two headlamp bulbs.

General Comments:

A very good car. Interior feels very cheap.

What do you replace it with? There are only 16 official 22B STI's coming to the UK. Grey Imports sound like too much hassle.

1997 Subaru Impreza Turbo 2.0 Turbo petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Whistling noise at 3500 RPM - cured by new dump valve replaced under warranty.

General Comments:

All round performance excellent - Nothing compares at this price.

Clutch judder when cold (I'm told this is common).

Very thirsty (Typically < 20 MPG!).

Difficult to get hold of new (I waited 6 months!).

1997 Subaru Impreza 2.0 Turbo from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Dealer fit CD Player has developed a fault, and sound 'breaks up' on the move.

Been waiting 8 weeks for an off-side door mirror ... getting a bit tiresome !

General Comments:

My wife thinks that it dents easily ....

Difficult to know what to replace it with. Maybe they will bring in the 280bhp STI versions. Wonder what the price would be ?
