Just after a day on the golf course and one week on the road the clutch began to slip I guess the stock clutch is not good enough for so much power so I'm still waiting for a performance replacement to arrive.
Make sure that you get an extra clutch kit before it goes out, I found out it happens very often.
This car is FAST! It has a lot of torque and the handling is unbelievable, I know you've heard this before, but wait until you try it.
The seats are nice and tight just realized that I need to loose some weight.
AC cools down quick and that is very important down here in Cuba.
The car is much more than what I expected.
And yes, for some reason it gets dirty a lot.
So... You are from Cuba, Huh.
Apart of the American cars from the 50's and Russian Moskvitch & Ladas.
I Really would like to know, what another cars manufacturers sells their car down the Fidel Island.
I'm from Argentina and if you reply this comment, telling me the web site of them, I would appreciate a lot.
By he way, I agree with you.
The Subaru Impreza WRX Turbo is a great car.
I do own one as well. Mine is a 1996 White Sedan fully loaded.
Handles fantastic, goes superb, feels safe, looks nice and is very reliable.
Yeah, I agree.
I own a 1998 Impreza WRX Sedan 4-Door 2.0L Turbo Manual (Stock, no modifications and Black Colored) for about a year and has been a reliable car, apart of the same clutch issue that, you had with your car. In my case, the clutch was "begging" for replacement at 57.000 Kilometres on the clock, otherwise just regular maintenance and the car runs like a dream.
I can say that all these 15 years of motoring, this one of the best cars I have ever owned along with my previous 1995 Opel Vectra GSi 2.0 16V Manual "A" Model. Also it was a great car. In fact it better than the Subaru in some areas like, comfort, internal space and costs of maintenance. But the Impreza still is a lovely car and I would recommend to anyone. However both cars are bad, at the fuel consumption area. I'm getting the same Gasoline consumption of the Vectra with the Subaru. No big deal, once the Impreza is faster than the Opel.
The Subaru Impreza WRX is Very fast, handles well, looks nice, feels safe and it's reliable. Not much comfortable tough. I'm 6"3;1,92m and 211ibs;96Kg and I have find the seats quite uncomfortable at long distance trips. The seats are way to hard and cushion is way too short for my size and weight; Also the driving position is not that good either. Every time I get in the car, my knee hits the steering wheel, the back seat is cramped and the boot size is small; Not much economic too. Mine gets 7,0 Km/L at the city and 9,0 Km/L at the highway. actually, this not really bad specially if take in consideration the car's performance and the fact that I drive all the time with the Air-Conditioning turned on. By the way the A/C cold down really quick, which is very important down here in Santos São Paulo, Brazil. However, even living in country that has many petroleoum, the price of the petrol here in Brazil is just an absurd, so the problem, is not the car's petrol consumption, but the price of the petrol. Tough who buy a high performance car like this, does not cares for this petrol economy issue.
Well, anyway; I'm really pleased with my "Scooby" (as the British called them) and it really worth the money, that I invested on it.
Good car with some "forgivable" flaws.
Just wondering...
Was it the WRX, that you drove in Cuba a Rental car?
I mean, I have traveled to Cuba in 2002 and I didn't see too many of them at there. I just saw only one, that belongs to a Luxurious five star hotel in Varadero and the Impreza that I saw, it was also a 1998 sedan 4-door, but at the base version. When I traveled down there, my rental car was a 1996 Daihatsu Cuore. I stayed five days in the country and I also stayed in Varadero on a five stars hotel. I had visited Havana and I got chocked with so many poverty and those American and Russian clunkers. Well... at least, the Russian cars seems to be more tidy than the American ones from the Fifties.
I would love if you reply my comment. Because I got curious to know, if you really are a Cuban citizen that, really owns an Impreza or if you are tourist, that drove one during a Holiday at Cuba.
Cheers!

Hi, I am from Jamaica. I thinking about buying a 1997 Subaru Impreza WRX. I don't have much knowledge about the car. But basically what I want to know is, what are some of the things that I need to check for? I must say that the comments on the web site have helped me a lot. But is there anything else that I need to check for, which was not stated?
Jerry.
I was just wondering if anyone could tell why exactly the British call the Impreza a Scooby?
One woman said it was because Subaru sounds like Scooby doo, but I thought about it and if that was the case then all of the Subaru vehicles would be called Scooby?
I feel kinda dumb for the lack of knowledge when I my self own one.
By the way, my fiance stuck his 1500 Chevy 4x4 in the mud a had a bright idea he was gonna pull it out of the mud with my Impreza AWD. Safe to say he burned my clutch. Luckly he can fix cars. So he went to by a new clutch and ask the dealer ships if he could use an older modle clutch on a 2004 Impreza, and the parts guy said no cause it would tear it up. But he bought one any way because the only difference between say a 2002 clutch and a 04 is the modle number. Well he put it on and changed the exhaust around a little bit and now it goes a whole lot faster than it did before. Its probably as fast as an STI, I'd have to race one to know for sure though. But I know I can beat those new turbo Neons. Ha ha in your face. Sorry, I'm only 20 and act like a little kid. My bad! :P.
