1992 Subaru Legacy RS review from Australia and New Zealand
"Be more reliable if fixed properly"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Alternator stopped working, replaced with second hand unit, $200.
Power steering hose burst, $50.
Rocker cover gasgkets started leaking oil, $200 for both.
Radiator water reservior started leaking, $150.
All front Cv boots needed replacing, (4).
Top radiator hose burst (due to head gakget being blown).
Thermostat seal burst after top hose was replaced, (due to head gasket being blown and mechanic not releasing head gakget was blown.)
Water pump and radiator end tank burst, (reason as above).
After the four leaks above mechanic finally realized head gasget was blown.
Engine had to be removed got new lifters put in as they where getting noisy, new valve stem seals clutch and seals in heads. $5000.
Got four new coils and plugs as it was missing badly after head gasket work ($700), still missed after being replaced.
Decided to go to another garage!!
Clutch shudders despite being replaced 5000km ago.
Radiator cap replaced due to not holding any pressure (seal hard and brittle) 5000km after being replaced doubt it was new when replaced.
Valve stem seals leaking oil despite being replaced after 7000km.
Rocker cover gakget leaking oil again despite being replaced 7000km.
Temp sensor replaced due to running rich.
New accessory drive belts.
General comments?
Quick car.
Handles well.
Needs to be serviced regularly to be kept in good working order (5000KM).
Reliable car provided it's fixed properly.
