1994 Subaru Legacy L review from North America
"Like a Geyser - very faithful!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
When I bought the car it had a bad transmission so I decided to buy it anyway b/c it was only $700 and no rust (unusual here in NY). I got a low-mileage (35k) transmission for just $1,500 installed and now the car is great!
It runs like a car with MUCH lower mileage (it feels more like 35,000 than 155,000 and the interior is nearly spotless). The outside has a tiny little rust spot - it's about the size of a tic-tac over the rear wheel well and the, but you can't even see it unless you're looking hard.
Both front CV joints were replaced at a cost of $140/each.
Power locks are a little hard to figure out - maybe they don't always work right?
The original hubcaps are faded.
General comments?
Great reliable economical transportation.
The interior is in terrific shape!
Durable & Sturdy. 29-31 MPG highway, 24 city. Enough power to pass, but whiny engine at higher revvs. Fortunately, it only turns 2,900 rpm at about 75MPH in top gear.
Drove it on a 2,400 mile road trip with no problems!
Highest comfortable speed is only about 85mph unlike many sportier cars that can easily go faster. Starts to feel floaty at speeds higher than that. Not a big car, but not a tiny car either. It doesn't stand out much except for the reliability, performance, and cost which are all a good value!
