1993 Subaru Legacy review from North America
"Affordable and solid"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Timing belt, CV joints and several other things all started going immediately around 130K miles. it was a little costly to fix, but after all that was said and done, it hasn't had many problems. I replaced the brakes (routers too, but that was my own fault) at 160K.
My only major problem with this car is a manufacturers defect that they refused to fix. My sister bought this car brand new in 93, gave it to my mom and its now mine. in 99 the passengers side panel for the outside between the door and windsheild flew off on the parkway. There was no reason for this to happen seeing as the car never had an accident. the dealership replaced it just to have it fall off again and then they refused to do anything about it. I've seen the same models with this same issue. Not really a big deal until something hit the side of the windsheild and slowly began to crack it all the way across. that and t
he annoying noise from the wind.
It now makes some small strange noises, like when I turn off the heat it makes a clicking noise. No one could ever figure it out. the odometer now makes an unusual sound too.
General comments?
Subarus are great cars and this is no exception. You just have to maintain them and they will last you. I have no doubt that this car could go to 200k. I unfortunately need to retire it because I need something bigger. I was even looking to buy a Forester just because I have so much faith in these cars.
