1992 Subaru Loyale review from North America

Developed rust at the rear quarter panels.

Strut rod and bushing replaced after bushing rotted away.

The usual: plugs, dist. cap, rotor, drive belts.

Water pump gasket blew.

Too many oil seals had to be replaced to even count.

Developed a weird starting issue where it sometimes would either start immediately or not at all. It probably was a ground issue.

Considering how much punishment I dealt to this car, it's amazing it held up so well. It started as a grandma's grocery-getter and became my first car and my personal plaything.

I ran the temperature needle into and past the red 3 (!) times after the water pump gasket blew trying to get home instead of having it towed. I kept stopping and refilling the entire engine with water. Oil started to seep out of the seams of the engine, it was so incredibly hot. And guess what? After the gasket was replaced, it ran perfectly fine.

The seals on these cars leak like hell. There was always SOMETHING dripping. Not that the engine seemed to mind, mind you.

I could not leave the car alone and was always trying to replace something (even when it didn't need replacing) or modifying something and I feel bad I didn't treat it the way I should have.

I eventually sold it to a guy after I couldn't afford to keep it anymore. Every once in a while I see it and want it back.
