1992 Subaru Loyale review from North America
"A comfortable, economical, and reliable, all-weather vehicle"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
"Check Engine" light suddenly appeared recently after purchasing the vehicle. Oil sensor needed to be replaced.
Burns oil due to a broken piston ring. This was caused by extremely brutal driving, not through any fault of the vehicle.
Leaky head gasket, again as a result of brutal driving.
Minor electrical problems. Shoulder belt doesn't always slide forward when door is opened. Power lock on passenger's side doesn't work. In-dash clock is dead.
General comments?
This is my first car. Though it is a bit under-powered, the Subaru Loyale handles impressively in practically all driving conditions. The car is very stable on even the windiest of back roads, and is great in snow and rain.
It is a very reliable machine. I have had no engine problems until recently, and all of the problems I am experiencing now have been caused by my aggressive driving. Even so, the automatic transmission operates flawlessly and the car starts up the instant the key is turned.
The interior is surprising accommodating and visibility is excellent. The front and back seats are quite roomy, and there is no shortage of trunk space.
