Front driveside CV, Leaking Valve cover gasket, No front windshield defrost.
General comments?
I like this little car. I have a V-8 Ford Explorerer as my main ride, but use the little Subaru to get around in. I am a windsurfer from San Francisco and live in the city. She holds all my gear and gets me to the most gnarly windy remote windsurf launch spots through some of the bays most smelly and sticky, salty mud. The 4wd drive is perfectly seamless and does not make a sound. When I bought her the old lady that owned her did not abuse her at all (the wagon) and she is in great condition inside and the red paint still beads water. I got her with all the owners manuals, radio manual and the spare had never been used and the supplied tools are still untouched as is the jack. Thought the car was never abused she was not that well maintained. The transaxle made a terrible noise the first time I took it on the highway. Guess what? the transaxle was dry as a bone. I added a little 90w and she runs quiet. Front wind. defroster has a vacuum actuator problem and will not defrost. A/c still works. She needed about $500 for a set of brakes and a new CV in front. Greatfully I live in the bay area and work near Berkeley CA. There are many, many Subaru only repair shops that do excellent work for less than originally estimated prices. Parts are plentiful though $expensive$. Did my own tune up. New plugs, cap+rotor and wires for under $50. Friggin Kragen had the parts off the shelf!!! This little car is also a chick magnete. Sure she is slow and drips oil, when the cv went it sprayed the engine bay with grease, and she needs some wax. Other than that I could sell this little wagon today for $3000 easy. To date I have pressure washed the engine and it looks new!
