1982 Subaru Sherpa Delux review from Australia and New Zealand
"Cheapest car to run with space to burn"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Water pump at 242xxx kms which in turn blew the head, and then made a mess of rest of the engine.
Replaced original lights to modern h4's.
General comments?
This is a great CHEAP car to run. I wish I could have said the same about the initial cost, but what are you gonna do?
I paid $350 aus for it with 8 months rego in running order, and immaculate all round, until the water pump seized and took the motor with it.
I paid $800 aus for COMPLETE REBUILD with honing and all, and now it runs smoother than a singer engine. Can get nearly 450kms out of a tank and by not driving my fast car (rb20det heavily modified Nissan Onevia) I'm saving so much.
Handles OK a bit boaty, but I'm used to 12kg/mm coilovers.
Got no rust in it yet anywhere.
Original gold paint is still looking great.
Inside all carpet and plastic/vinyls looking great.
Only thing I've done is thrown a nice Clarion din unit in, and changed the old lights to a h4 setup.
Recommend as perfect daily AND great little parts hauler (moved 2 complete engines). Not very fast though :p.
