1987 Suzuki Samurai JX from North America - Comments

"For the price of a jeep you can have the perfect 4x4!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Exhaust was broke into two.

Needed a starter relay (wasn't getting enough power to the starter)

Needs windshield Frame.

Needs windshield wiper assembley and moter.

Needs new Top, the hard top leaks.

Bumper mounts rusted away.

Speedometer cable broke so I don't know how may miles are on it.

General comments?

Cheap to get parts for, this little beast is a dream in the snow. It snowed a foot up here in alaska and the little zuk went like a dream in 4x4 when I switched to 2 wheel drive it still kept going even on "All season" Tires, these tires have almost no traction and actually looks like somthing you would find on a old V.W. I would recomend this for anyone who plans to get into serouse offroad stuff. These little buggers are cheap to fix up compared to the Jeeps or other 4x4s.

Bad stuff:

It has 67 hp @6500 RPMs (that's enough for the 2500 lbs that's it weighs though)

Has a top speed of 75mph, and I heard it has a 0-60 of 19 seconds.

When you think about it Jeep CJs where only meant to go to 55 mph every once in awhile. If your looking to get into going on trails this is a perfect car for you! Try fitting a Ford 1ton on a trail! Only thing I wouldn't do is go on the highway *We don't have highways up here so that's perfect*. Well I can go on forever about the suzuki samurai, but I won't.

What did you use to convert to 2 wheel drive?

I do not think he converted in it to 2 wheel drive. I think he put in it 2 wheel drive from 4 wheel drive.

The sammy is a great 4x4. I just got one and it is unstoppable. I love it.

What did you do about the rust?

I have a 87 samurai as well and a lot of rust.

What would be the best way to take care of the rust?

Yeah, I second that "rust" question. I also have an '87 - I'm at 656 000 kms and looking for a low cost way to either replace quarter panels, or at least do some kind of patch job.
