The hood on this one seemed to deteriorate faster than the previous one. Also, it didn't like extreme cold or rain.

I am not agree with you! I live in French Guyana, rainy place (6 month a year,) dirty roads, bad gasoline, an my samurai have 11 years now! NEVER I change pieces except normal use (battery, oil, filters, spark plugs, tires an pipe! That's ALL!!!)
the samurai is the best car for poor, dirty and rainy places in the world!!
