1982 Suzuki SJ410 v review from Australia and New Zealand
"This car is not made to go fast on the road, but will go ANYWHERE off road"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The heater goes, but cannot be turned from hot to cold or vice versa. It has been like this since it was new.
It had very bad rust when it was three years old. Despite expensive rust-proofing. The company that did the rust proofing repaired all rust damage, and there hasn't been any rust since. The early sj410 pre 1985 were prone to rust, thereafter build quality (galvanizing) improved, and less rust occurred in later models.
Was driven through a river, and water got in to the engine. That was an expensive mistake.
Somehow some teeth were smashed off the center shaft in the gearbox, which caused all sorts of problems, but this is very rare, and isn't a usual problem.
Other than that, and its drowning, this Suzuki has never missed a beat, and always gets me home.
General comments?
Sj410's have a great reputation for being unstoppable off road. They have great clearance and also have a very narrow wheel base.
This car is a bit slow on the open road, and it is only possible to travel at about 90kmh, although 110kmh is possible on downhills, or with tail wind.
It doesn't use much fuel.
It's fun to drive, and takes the boredom out of driving anywhere.
